Hulu announced that they are going to offer subscription service on the Sony PS3 console. Several sources claim that Hulu and Sony are going to sign the partnership agreement by neat week. It is not known that who reported that the partnership is announced next week because the person has requested not to reveal his identity as the arrangement has not confirmed yet.
Previously, Hulu was made available on the Microsoft Xbox 360. If Sony signed the agreement with Hulu, PS3 players will now be able to watch video in their PS3 console. Hulu offers a large range of television programs and movies. You can also watch news from broadcasting station such as ABC World News, National Geographic, and Fox News.
By providing subscription service to PS3, Hulu is able to increase its revenue significantly. The subscription may helps Hulu to achieve a higher position than Netflix in the marketplace. Netflix offers mail order movie rentals for $8.99 per month. Hulu also plan to make their television programmes become available on CBS, Viacom and Time Warner through subscription service. To sign up for the subscription service, you must first register for the PlayStation Network service.
Sony PS3 spokesman, Patrick Seybold had refused to provide further detail because the agreement is not yet secured. Likewise, Hulu spokswomen, Christina Lee also declined to comment on the matter.
Hulu did inform the reporters that the service will be $9.95 per month. The subscription price for PS3 is the same as the subscription price for Microsoft Xbox 360.
Sony shares had drop by 1.2% as reflected in the Tokyo Stock Exchange while Hulu had dropped by 7.8% in year 2010.
SNL Kagan reported that Hulu adnetwork is profitable. Hulu website has earned more than $52.4 million in February. More than 70% of Hulu adnetwork revenue is paid to content owners. In addition, the cost of operating the website cost $12.6 million. This left Hulu with a $2.04 million in profit.
It will be great if Hulu and Sony sign the agreement and made the subscription service in PS3. With the video subscription service, customers are able to watch the videos whenever they are as long as they carry their PS3 console.
