Salt, comprises of forty percent sodium as well as sixty percent of chloride, and is crucial to your life. Living without salt is next to impossible. Sodium helps in maintaining the water content of your blood. In other words, acids and bases are balanced with the help of salts. It also helps in the movement of electrical charges in the nerves which move our muscles. However, excessive of anything is not good and this rule of thumb goes for salt as well.
If you restrict the amount of sodium chloride or salt from your diet then you can lower the risk of cardiovascular disorders. Dieter Klaus together with his colleagues stated that people who take sodium chloride in their diet are at a higher risk of developing hypertension and cardiovascular morbidities. Restricting the dietary intake of salt will not only help in preventing cardiovascular morbidities but also help in counteracting other lifestyle diseases like diabetes and obesity. As a preventive measure, the authors recommend lowering dietary salt intake. By lowering the intake of sodium chloride you can lower your daily intake of salt by as much as five to six g per day.
