Google: FERC permits Google to sell & buy energy

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given its permission to Google to start selling and buying energy at market rates. Google created a subsidiary Google Energy and placed a request with the FERC to allow it to deal with energy in the market a month ago.

With this approval Google can now buy clean energy while selling any excess power to the wholesale customers and market. This implies Google can use some of the energy and sell the remaining extra power which essentially means Google Energy can take on similar functions to utilities.
