RIM: BlackBerry devices facing complaints by Motorola

Motorola Inc. filed a complaint with the USITC (United States International Trade Commission) to block the entry of RIM’s BlackBerry devices into the United States on the basis of violating a number of Motorola’s patents.

Motorola claims RIM’s smartphone devices are infringing on five of its patents dealing with power management, user interface and Wi-Fi access.

These actions and complaints are not uncommon but they come at a bad time for RIM since Kodak has also filed a complaint against RIM to ban the import of the BlackBerry devices for violating one of Kodak’s patents.
