Movie Review: Wild Grass Will Make You to Go Through ‘What If’ Situations

“Wild Grass” is one heck of a movie that changes your perceptions about life and that too, on individual levels. If you’re a young viewer, the film’s reedy atmosphere will make you think that most of the incidents and consequences that occur in life, are all figments of miracles.

Whereas, older people will have a different notion about the movie because they’ll be inclined to believe that the likelihood of most of the stuff that happens in life, comes through sheer accidents. “Wild Grass” is the result of latest work of art from Alain Resnais – the person who may have related to this movie through personal experiences.

Resnais has been attached to the film making profession, since the era of 1959. At 88, he decided not to mention his age, but let his work do the talking. Regardless of the age factor, some people believe that old directors can’t really come up with master pieces because their mind lacks that sense of innovation. They don’t take bold risks and as a result, those movies just follow an old and traditional path. But that’s not true in the case of “Wild Grass.”

“Wild Grass” encompasses its storyline through a narrator and at the first few glances, the movie seems to be connected in a labyrinth kind of manner. The narrator drops us on the heroine – Marguerite (Sabine Azema), who went to a shoe store to buy some shoes. Just when she was about to make the payment, her purse was snatched by thief.

Although, her billfold was later on spotted down by Georges (Andre’ Dussollier), a married man. The guy takes a look at the photograph of Marguerite and finds out that she is single, a dentist and a private pilot. Naturally, any guy in Georges’ situation will feel attracted to the woman, so he thinks of locating her.

On the other side, we get to have an insight on Marguerite’s life. Her best friend happens to be Josepha (Emmanuelle Devos), who has her own story linked to her life. To be honest, “Wild Grass” is sort of a movie that you can really reflect upon, through a review. The film is intended to be watched by mature and serious viewers.

If you’re more of a tex-mex A-Team fan, then stay out of the whole “Wild Grass” deal. It will only bore you to death. In simple words, Resnais’ wants to say that life is all about mere accidents and coincidences that make you go through “What if” situations. When you look at life through that way, you will begin to understand “Wild Grass” at a closer level.
