10 Suicides at Apple iPhone Factory in China

Shenzhem China – Friday, July 23, 2010 – ShutterVoice – Yet more news about extremely difficult working conditions in China, this time at an Apple sub contracting manufacturing partner Foxconn a Taiwanese company who manufacture under license the Apple iPhone from factories located in Shenzhen in south China. The manufacturing complex is huge as the site not only houses all the factories complete with iPhone production lines, but also provides accommodation for more than 300,000 workers. The living conditions  are sparse providing only basic needs for the employees many who earn only 2,000 Chinese Yuan  – £195 UK Pounds – $298 US Dollars a month. The extreme difficulties for employees have left the company with 10 suicides to deal with, this has created many other problems as worker moral is low and the workforce are unhappy and demanding more wages and better living conditions. Foxconn had approached Apple and have said that prices paid for the iPhone units will have to be increased
