It seems like Cloud based services had a lot more coming their way than we initially thought. The big space giant – NASA and Rackspace joined hands to deliver an open sourced cloud computing platform which is known as “OpenStack”.
The announcement of OpenStack came on Monday, when NASA and Rackspace officials said that they felt the need of pushing their efforts the direction of cloud based services. The VP of Rackspace – Mark Collier said that OpenStack is not simple, it is clearly rocket science but it draws the attention of service providers and various channels that are looking to use a cloud based platform.
The VP continued by saying that the bottom line for us is to believe in a potential game of changing events in the market. Rackspace committed itself to open source projects because we wanted to reach out to providers and give them means of developing something new and revolutionary.
Plus, the industry needed to take its mind off Amazon, Google and Microsoft for a while and in this time, the idea of NASA based cloud platform seems like a new thing. Take a look at what Randy Bias – CEO of CloudScaling.Com had to say:
• OpenStack is an open invitation to service providers who want to tread on a new path that wasn’t there before.
It is necessary for the industry to have an alternative to Amazon. It is not due to some problems with AWS, the thing is cloud computing is unable to fulfill its promise in the long rung, i.e. revolutionize the way computing is consumed in case there are no various vendors providing offerings for different use-cases, budgets, needs as well as customer segments.
In fact, OpenStack provides a possibility for service providers to build offers so as to compete with VMware, Amazon and even Google, when it comes to computer and storage offerings.
