Sunderland striker Darren Bent has opted to stop using Twitter in order to focus on helping his club avoid relegation. Twitter has become a very popular method for users and particularly celebrities to provide regular updates using tweets of up to 140 characters to describe what they are doing, planning to do or their current status.
Bent is having a good season and the tweets do not appear to have affected him as he has already scored 16 times this season. The striker attributed his decision to the fact some of his Twitter followers and others have written inaccurate stories about him in the papers, blogs or on other media platforms. Bent said he does not need the extra distraction and wants to focus on playing the game.
His Manager Steve Bruce was pleased with Bent’s decision and said he is happy to see the focus is on achieving results and football as opposed to other things.
