RIM: the Days of Haze Are Not Over

The days of haze are not over for RIM – With the stupendous amount of iPhone 4 sales and the hyped up Droid X market, RIM is desperate on grabbing some attention. You can take a look at Blackberry OS6 promo trailers at YouTube, to get a whiff of their desperation.

The company is boasting a slew of features that are included in Blackberry OS6. Needless to say, the ad looks a lot more like that of Microsoft Kin series because RIM overdid everything in it. Feast your eyes on:

• iPod like interface
• Social networking oriented features
• New WebKit browser
• Pinch and Zoom features
• Portrait sized screen

The list can go on, and it merely suggests that RIM is determined to make a change through the upcoming combo of Blackberry OS6 and Blackberry Torch 9800. The smartphone will have a full touchscreen and a slide out keyboard but the design is said to resemble one of those Android phones.

RIM is sending a clear message to the Blackberry community – Please, o pretty please stick with us, we know that you want to go for Evo 4G, iPhone 4 or Droid X but we promise that we will introduce the same features those phones are already offering.

The NPD survey reports about Blackberry handsets couldn’t come at a worse time. Since 2008, the “very satisfied” level of Blackberry customers has dropped to 30 percent from 55 percent. RIM just happened to lose that “cool” Old Spice effect that it used to have on all those clients. None of us is sure if Blackberry’s “Wanna Be” campaign is going to work. Maybe it will give a bad name to the company, but just like “Barney” from “How I Met Your Mother” says, Wait for it…. Wait for it…

And we shall see if Blackberry OS 6 or Torch 9800 is a show starter, in due time!
