In a race for long term survival and gold ratings, Microsoft recently announced that they’ll be paying developers to create applications for Windows 7 Mobile OS. This would help the company to overcome any shortcomings and obviously, if the idea is a big hit, then Microsoft will be way ahead of Google’s Android OS and Apple’s iOS4.
Financial incentives are not the only thing that Microsoft is famous for. Apparently, if you remember correctly, Gates’ company did the same thing when Bing and Bing Cashback were offered. It’s another thing that the services were more of a disappointment and we are still waiting to see if Bing search engine survives through 2K10 or not.
According to Todd Brix – Senior Director @ Microsoft, the company will be providing free tools and application downloads to those developers who will create software packages for Windows 7 Mobile OS. Perhaps, the delay of Microsoft’s much awaited OS has this reason to it. When inquired about the amount of money Microsoft is willing to sacrifice, Brix just stared at us with numb looks.
Instead, he said that Microsoft is letting those young developers to hone their skills at our platform and we are only doing this as a “favor” to aspiring new developers! Microsoft already missed one complete generation of mobile phones and now the company wants to jump the jump by taking shortcuts.
One thing is clear, at least for now, Windows 7 Mobile OS will have fewer numbers of applications as compared to Apple or Google. Apple has more than 225,000 apps to its credit, while Google lies somewhere close to 65,000. Microsoft will have to go through a lot to make it road worthy and there’s no doubt about it.
One can admit that there is less enthusiasm when it comes to Windows Phone 7. At present the platform is considered to be an unproven prospect.
