The sales of Microsoft Office 2010 hitched to a slow pace, followed by its launch in May. The NPD marketing research group is saying that Microsoft probably has, older versions of Microsoft Office as its fierce rival!
To be honest, Microsoft Office 2007 is still being used at a much larger rate, than that of Office 2K10. Don’t believe it? Here, take my example; I am working in Microsoft Office 2007 right now and this document is being typed in Microsoft Word 2007.
The NPD statistics show that maybe Microsoft hit a bad start or the timing for the product release itself was bad. Also, don’t forget that OpenOffice and Google Docs is way too cheap if someone had to make a side by side comparison of those products with Microsoft Office 2K10.
If you care to ask a general OpenOffice and Google Docs user, most likely, they will prefer the latter software duo over Microsoft Office 2010 because of one factor, and that my friends – is called price. Although, Microsoft introduced better enhancements and features that could beat Google Docs and OpenOffice easily, but the company is demanding a small fee for those feature.
Apparently, Microsoft’s small fee for Office 2010 services isn’t that “small” for certain organizations and home users. A major reason for Office 2010’s demise is that the software was launched during the slow season for new PC purchases. On the contrary, Office 2K7 was launched with the debut of Windows Vista. A lot of people had no choice during the interval between the launch of Windows Vista and Windows 7, and they went for Office 2007.
Some experts at NPD believe that Microsoft won’t be getting that much affected because users are still using some version of the Office. Be it Office 2007 or Office 2010, as long at the products have Microsoft’s logo on it, the company won’t have to fear that much.
