Microsoft also jumped into the Smartphone arena about three months ago when they unveiled the latest state of the art Smartphone and the model was named as Microsoft Kin. This release of the Smartphone was according to tech experts a frantic effort by Microsoft to scramble the market share and counter the Apple and Google Inc. dominance, but it was a move that didn’t go well.
So owing to these facts Microsoft has pulled the plug on its new generation of Smartphones. Microsoft in an official statement said that it has cancelled its plan to sell “Kin” phones in the Europe. Moreover, the company added that the team working on the development of this phone will now be combined with the developing team of Microsoft Windows Phone 7.
The emailed statement given by the Microsoft said that although they will keep on working on their continued relation with the Verizon to sell the current in-house stocks of the Kin phones.
The kin phones by the Microsoft was the software giant’s first attempt to jump into the Smartphone market, the phones were aimed at the young eager users, with the trendy features like social networking and the integrated Microsoft Zune platform for the music On-the-go.
Microsoft has totally revamped the game and the mobile phone division within the company. The gaming division head Robbie Bach is close to his retirement so that’s why the division will be directly under Steve Ballmer.
Although, Microsoft had a 6.8 percent share of the Smartphone market typically the smart phone operating system as compared to the 15.4 percent share of the other tech giant Apple, and Kin was just an attempt by the Microsoft to overtake that percentage, but with this pulling off the plug, the market share will further plummet till the time Windows 7 Phone is not released.
