Microsoft released a youth-oriented Social Networking phone with the name of Kin to try to grab the market share as far as smartphones and trendy gadgets are concerned. But, with the release of rival phones like iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G, Microsoft Kin has not been a success story at all and was not seen as a flying off the super store shelves kind of a gadget. Amidst all these competitiveness, Verizon the official carrier associated with the Microsoft Kin has decided to cut down the price of the phone $99 to $49. The prices of both the Microsoft’s Kin models have been trimmed down that includes the new Kin two as well.
Although, the ad campaign being run for the phone was a quite a significant one, describing the entire ready to use social networking features and elaborating its usability, but due to some other feature rich phones available in the market, it got scant attention of the customers since it has been launched. The Kin was basically designed for social networking users, but it got the heat of competition from the smartphones like iPhone which is able to run thousand of applications.
Verizon over the weekend quietly cut down the price of both the Kin models available in the market. The lower end Kin One price has been dropped from $49 to $29. These price tags require the users of the phones to sign a contract for two years which include monthly data plan and voice services.
Kin itself has some issues and quirks like there is no calendar and tweeter services have some problem. With HTC, Samsung and Apple jumping in with their high-end not so expensive smartphones likes of Kin will have a tough competition at hand and there will be more price cuts in order to keep pace with the market.
