Google Announces Release of Android 2.2

Last week Google finished building the 2.2 Android program also known as Froyo. The program is now available to developers and manufacturers allowing them to release the app program onto handsets.

The new Android program is going to be released this week for the Google Nexus One but it should be available on other handsets soon. Motorola has announced it will be featured on their new XT720 model. The program will also be available to upload manually.

The big advantages of the Froyo program are the massive improvements on speed, up to 450 percent faster than the previous 2.1 version. There is also the option to install apps on a microSD card.

In other news the HTC Hero is finally getting the upgrade to Android 2.1 just as the new 2.2 is released. But HTC is looking to upgrade all their models to the 2.2 in the future.

“The speed up is a huge improvement from the previous 2.1 version”
