Can Apple ever take the place of Microsoft- the mystery prevails?

Apple to replace Microsoft?

We all know that Microsoft has got the leap on the personal computer world in the late 80s and maintained it well throughout the 90s, IBM and Apple’s operating system division were left somewhat in the dust. VAX and Unix seemed to have gained immense popularity in the early days when compared with now. In fact, it may often come to our mind that Apple is planning to overtake Microsoft not only in terms of market share but also to bring Macs back into contention together with Intel or MS systems. The iPhone, iPod, and iPad can be termed as the gateway devices for luring people into the Apple milieu and make them feel comfortable with the technology.

Over the past few years, sales of Apple Macs have increased to a considerable extent, thereby helping Apple with somewhere around 7.5% of the PC market. iPods are everywhere and iPads are gaining slow momentum. Apple’s iTunes and iStore complement the technologies that are sold by Apple as well as other computer vendors including Microsoft. Microsoft has double the revenue of Apple but still losing its ground when it comes to introducing new technologies. In fact, it can be rightly termed that Microsoft has garnered immense acclaim for productivity software and operating systems but as far as technology is concerned it isn’t at par with Apple. Within the past two years, the lack of a technology front can lead to continual erosion in revenue, market share, as well as shipments or product. Windows Phones are hardly the object of a discussion. Blackberry or RIM might be lagging the technology curve yet Microsoft mobile 7 is continuing paddling out into the waves simply because their market curve has dropped by four percent. But then, a question still prevails- has Apple’s patience, perseverance and hard work helped it to get a prominent position in the market?

Well, finding an answer to this question is debatable
