Would You Treat Nokia as Software Company?

Maybe it’s a case of Hypnoticism gone wrong, but Nokia believes that it is now a software provider, instead of being a hardware manufacturer. The company is widely known for selling some of the best mobile phones at world level and for the past few years, business has been really good in the cellphone industry.

Would-You-Treat-Nokia-as-Software-Company While Nokia is still bent on releasing cellphones, the company’s main agenda is to work on software oriented products, while keeping the release of cellphones on a minimum level on yearly basis. Experts believe that Nokia has opted for this strategy because they don’t want to end up like “Palm”.

The Asian Pacific Market Head of Nokia– Will Harris, said that the company is going through a transition phase and our future lies in the development of software, not hardware. Harris informed the Computer World spokesmen that Nokia is bound to release the open source Symbian Series 60 platform, with version 3 and 4 for the Symbian OS.

Nokia has also collaborated with Microsoft to release a slew of Exchange support based – Office Communication applications. It is now clear that this cellphone giant is learning from the downfall of Palm and trying to build collaborations with other members of the software + hardware community, at an international level.

Presently, Nokia is leading the cellphone industry by 43.9% of market share in Australia, according to the statistics revealed by IDC. However, according to the opinions of analyst Mark Novosel, Apple does have a shot at being the next smartphone/cellphone leader by the end of this year.
