There is increasing speculation Microsoft could move to buy RIM which is the manufacturer of the popular BlackBerry devices. Microsoft is not doing particularly great in the smartphone devices market and the plan could be to purchase RIM in order to position the company on top of the market in the US and worldwide.
There were also rumours that Microsoft would be interested in buying smartphone manufacturer Palm but this has been denied with Palm only valued at under $2 billion. Microsoft is valued at $246 billion and is aware of RIM’s considerable value which is estimated at around $38 billion.
Microsoft has been dealing with the rapid growth of search engine giant Google which is challenging competitors in all markets involving the internet, smartphone devices and related tools.
