Google announced to complete shut down their web store that they used to sell Nexus One mobiles for the last couple of months and thinking to sell it via real world shops where people can get hands on experience before buying the mobile. It is still unclear what number of units has been sold from that web store or what was the sales revenue generated from the Nexus One mobile as Google Officials denied to disclose that fact to the public but the announcement proves that sales is not even near to their expectation.
Nexus one is the only hardware part sold by Google beside all its software part which they rule with the major market shares in the internet. So they took strategy to sell the nexus one too via their web store without reaching any physical store so far, unlike the other brands. The main reason behind this was an effort to sell the combination of Android Smartphone Operating System, Nexus One & exclusive data rate contact from a single platform, the web store. But this announcement proved that everything has its own place and hardware must be sold physically in stores so that the users get a chance to experience them before they buy.
This announcement also brings forth some unanswered questions about its carrier, future sales strategy & adaptation of other advertising media than Google. The effort of selling nexus one that began early this year has already made its operating system Android popular throughout the world as a versatile mobile OS but is failed to make the Web Store or Nexus One popular. The back firing of the strategic failure has already made them taking hard steps and shutting down the web store entirely but the future sales of the Google Nexus one will not be impressive as it will be losing the advantage of Latest hardware after HTC EVO 4G has launched.
We are waiting to see any innovative step from this pioneering company toward its sale in real stores.
