Apple gains in US market share for smartphones

The iPhone has been one of the most popular smartphone devices ever released pushing Apple Inc. to become a serious competitor in the phone business. Recent figures released by comScore Inc. which is a research group based in Reston, Virginia show Apple Inc.’s iPhone gained just over 1 percentage point in the US market share for smartphone devices to reach 25.3 percent.

RIM’s BlackBerry is still the most widely used smartphone device in the US despite losing 1 percentage point to drop to 41.6 percent. The remaining ranking companies are Microsoft Corp. with 18 percent followed by Palm Inc. with 6.1 percent and then Google Inc. with 5.2 percent.
