It seems like a lot of media players are pouring in recently. Here in ShutterVoice we now review the Xtreamer Media Player and test how it goes.

Bundle:
When you buy the Xtreamer HD Media Player, you get a lot of accessories which include the player itself along with Remote, HDMI Cable, 2 x AAA Batteries, Wi-Fi Dongle which is optional, AV Cable, Power Adaptor, USB Cable and finally a much needed Manual and Software CD to get started.
First Look:
This one-off media player stands vertically rather than other media players which lie flat. But the player comes with a detachable stand to avoid glitches.

There are three USB Ports, one being a mini USB port. It is used for connecting the player directly to TV for data transfer. The cooling system is fine with a fan on top. You can also slot a 2.5 inch drive by adjusting the screws at the top. So, the overall design and build seems to be good enough to attract the normal user.
The Remote is required for the complete control of the media player. Most of the functionalties can be accessed by a single button on the remote. Another interesting feature is the LED which pops up whenever you press a button to indicate its pressed. The remote control looks lenthy but it justifies with huge set of functional buttons.
Format Support:
Once you update this device to the latest firmware, it supports almost every file format you would ever need on earth. From the most popular Audio and Video Formats, it also supports wide array of Image Formats.
There are quite a lot of web services as well to add to this.
Performance:
Though it supports a range of file formats, the same cannot be applied for its playback of high bit-rate file. The rendering was not smooth but manageable. Overall the video quality was good. The major problem that many users would face is the 3ivx playback. The player initially comes with older firmware and updating it is essential for better performance.
Pricing and Rating:
It is fairly priced at $150. But with the USB Wi-Fi Adaptor, you would need to spend another 20 bucks. The player comes with a one year warranty. Its competitor WD TV costs another 20 bucks which is why people now like to choose this player. The possibility to extend its functionalities and its support for a wide range of file formats it really sits on top of the chart when it comes to media players.

I’m very interested in these network media players, I think I will soon buy one to feed it on the content from our Sinology NAS, I’m just not sure which one to buy. Either this, or the Asus O!play is going to be my choice.
