Talkback on Verizon iPhone Release date

It seems that the Verizon iPhone release date article received some heavy comments by the readers. We welcome this and we had also written an article regarding the petition for iPhone on Verizon as we think that it is one way for us to contribute to the community.

As mentioned before, the iPhone isn’t available on Verizon due to the difference in the network. AT&T utilizes a GSM band while Verizon uses CDMA. It is impossible to use a CDMA card on GSM phones and that is why the iPhone (even unlocked) isn’t available to Verizon.

In addition to that, due to the fact that both Apple and AT&T signed an exclusivity contract, Apple wasn’t able to create a CDMA version of the iPhone as it would definitely breach the contract. However, the contract will soon end and that will definitely pave way for the iPhone for Verizon.

We have mentioned before that there are words saying that there will be a version of the iPhone on Verizon (meaning that this particular version of iPhone will support CDMA networks). This version of iPhone on the other hand cannot be used on AT&T networks even if the user wishes to unless the new version supports both CDMA and GSM network (which we highly doubt it will).

Some mentioned that Verizon wishes to have total control on the network and as mentioned by Rude Jude, the Motorola Droid was a success even though it was under Verizon. 80 million customers is a lot of people and should the iPhone be released on Verizon networks, there will surely be at least a few million iPhone sold by the network.

A good example at this is the Motorola Droid once again. It made roughly 1.05 million sales in 74 days mostly from its CDMA version as it wasn’t until a few months till a GSM version of the Droid was released.

One commenter said that the iPhone is all about jailbreaking but this isn’t true. A vast majority of the iPhone users did not jailbreak their device. The market for iPhone is still standing strong and the millions of applications are sold every year with the market making millions if not billions out of it.

All in all, the release of the iPhone for Verizon would not be disastrous but profitable for Apple. The sole reason why it wasn’t able to do so in the first place was because of the exclusivity contract between Apple and AT&T. Hopefully we have covered most of the uncertainties faced by the reader.

Perhaps Apple should need to build another company to manufature another iPhone like Phone that runs on CDMA networks and signed another exclusive contract with Verizon. That should do solve the matter i guess.

Its better in India to buy an iPhone from other countries because its price here is so much high, but can they be used with mobile operators present here, I am confused about this.

iphone is one of the top selling product of Apple and Verizone is one of the top internet provider in US , so it would be beneficial for both to shake hands.

Why can’t apple just make one version and stick with it for a year or so…

It can’t be good for people who just brought the 3g and now finding out apple are again making a new version.

I can put money on it the same thing will apply with this ipad they are bringing out!

I can say that iPhone is ridiculously overpriced here, in Eastern-Europe as well, hope when the Verizon comes out, the 3gs will get cheaper, and who knows, I might be getting one!
