TiVo in the UK, Courtesy-Virgin Media

It appears like TiVo has been making a lot of headlines these days. Previously, it was the announcement of the launch of a new TiVo Premier model. Now, it is the turn of Virgin Media to offer the DVR’s to its subscriber base of 3.8 million.

Now this is not the first time that the UK market has been treated to the TiVo. The box was offered by Sky Satellite TV way back in the year 2000. Following some difficulties, the Tivo was dropped in the 2003 and Sky continued to build their own set-top recorder.

With this move, Tivo can grab a huge place for itself in the European DVR market. The timing could be no better; TiVo posted a huge loss that amounted to $10.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2009.

It’s reported that the UK Tivo will run the new and recently Virgin-slammed IPTV Project Canvas. This free catch up online TV service will stream content from BBC, Five, BT,TalkTalk,Channel 4 and ITV

This new TiVo is to be launched this year but the prices are not confirmed by neither Virgin or TiVo
