Nokia: Seeking Patent for New Type of Battery Charger

An interesting news is on the horizon for all Nokia fans: the Finnish company is out to secure a patent for a new kind of battery charger it has recently developed. The new battery charger involves the body movement to charge the battery in electronic devices much like how it works in the automatic wristwatches.

This technology makes use of piezoelectric elements. What it does is that it absorbs energy from all these movements and in return, generates electricity out of it. However, the amount of energy produced by these elements will not be sufficient to fully generate electricity. So people in Nokia said that the elements will provide a supplemental energy for these devices.

With new devices comes new feature. A lot of these new features take a substantial amount of battery life. Mobile phone manufacturer all over the world are trying to reduce the battery consumption of these phones without removing any of these new features.

It would take roughly six years for a patent to be secured in the United States. The application to secure the patent for this new type of battery charger was made in August 2008 so it may take a while for the patent to be secured.
