DRM Busted in 24 hours
Ubisoft announced some time ago a novel Digital Rights Management plan for PC games, claimed by many to be unbreakable.
It appears like this DRM just lasted 24 hours.
This DRM mechanism initially came out in Assassin’s Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5. This altogether had a new approach by relying on constant internet connectivity for constant checking of the game files for tampering or modifications.
If the transformed files were discovered or the internet connectivity dropped or if the servers at Ubisoft broke down, the game would shut down naturally.
For many, the DRM plan came as annoying and heavy-handed. So annoying that the chances of it surviving for long were bleak.
And it did not last long.
A group of crackers with the name Skid-Row managed to get around the DRM functionality on Silent Hunter 5 in less than twenty four hours, thus releasing the game’s crack.
