Microsoft’s Chinese Search Engine Site Uder Development

Maybe Microsoft’s Bing is of subpar worth, because the software giant is going to develop a Chinese search engine. This project being handled by Microsoft in collaboration with a Chinese e-commerce company: AliBaba Group.

Microsoft-Chinese-Search-Engine Both organizations are testing the newly founded search engine. It isn’t live, but rumor has it that the companies are poised on taking down Google and Baidu. The new search site is entirely in Chinese language (of course it makes sense), they’re calling it “Etao”.

AliBaba has a fair rep in the e-commerce sector; the company has been running its other websites for years now. According to Wall Street Journal, AliBaba’s TaoBao is the largest e-commerce website in Chine. TaoBao alone accounts for almost 75% of the entire e-commerce market in the region.

The next year’s financial forecast is expected to bring revenue up to $400 billion Yuan. AliBaba is co owned by Yahoo, the latter search engine has a 40% share in the company. For Microsoft, the Etao strategy is a stepping stone for them in the Chinese market.

It may not surprise you, but a well known Chinese news agency is also building up its own search engine. The names haven’t been revealed yet, so stay tuned for the updates.
