Garmin, which is a renowned name in the GPS market, has released BirdsEye Satellite and Aerial Imagery in another attempt to remain competitive in an increasingly saturated market. With mobile devices now offering navigation services for free, Garmin will have to deal with a new form of threat to its market share and what can be considered as unconventional competition. The rise of smartphone mobile devices has become a concern for Garmin and added another dimension to the competition in the GPS market.
The imagery service will cost $29.99 per year and will be provided by DigitalGlobe. Garmin declares the imagery is some of the best if not the best on the market with the most details having an impressive 0.5 meter per pixel resolution.
