The Israeli military had to put off a planned raid on a village in Palestine after one of its soldiers posted the operation details on Facebook.
The anonymous soldier disclosed the exact place and time of the planned raid and also his unit’s name on the social networking site.
As a result, the soldier was court-martialled and also sentenced to ten days in prison after being ousted from his battalion and relieved of combat duties.
His friends and fellow soldiers in Facebook reported his post to the authorities concerned.
The decision to put off the raid was made by commanders owing to feared dangers to the unit in question.
And the operation went ahead several days later.
The military stated that uploading classified information to social networking sites or any other website discloses the information to anyone who may want to view it, inclusive of foreign & hostile intelligence services.
