Smartphone: Skype Releases App for Nokia Symbian Smartphones
After cutting off all ties with Skype Lite and Windows Mobile version of Skype, the company released a new application for the Nokia Symbian smartphone users.
The Skype for Symbian can be downloaded from the Nokia Ovi app store. Currently, the version supports more than 25 different smartphones by Nokia. The company estimates that the 25 smartphones represent more than 200 million smartphones available worldwide.
Even though this highly anticipated app was released, speculators said that it will do little to improve the market share of the Symbian which is slowly declining to other operating system such as iPhone, Blackberry and Android.
Previously, Skype was also published to iPhone users but it is limited to only the use of Wi-Fi network. However, a source from the company said that there will be a new version of Skype for iPhone which would enable support for 3G connections. Currently, the Skype for iPhone has been downloaded by more than 12 million customers worldwide.
