Apple Audit Exposes Underage Labor amongst Other Problems

A recent audit on the supplier factories of consumer electronics manufacturer Apple made by the company itself revealed a number of violations. In fact, the audit found 17 different core violations such as underage labor, hazardous waste disposal and many more.

Three factories were found to have 11 underage labors in total and most of them are of age 15 years old when they were first hired into the factory. However, during the audit, most of these labors are already within the minimum employment age of 16.

Another problem faced by Apple is also the illegal hiring practices inside these factories. As a result of the audit, Apple will upgrade the management system through methods such as ID check and proper verification procedures so that none of the employers would be underage.
