SkyCable Corporation is widely recognized for its affiliates and LOPEZ LED Cable TV. The company is now known to be spending 200 million pesos to switch 85% of its clients to digital cable networks.
For SkyCable, the move was essential for long term survival in the market. Other companies have already switched to digital media, which is cheaper and cost effective for customers. Also, SkyCable happens to be a subsidiary of broadcast giant ABS-CBN Corp.
It is evident that digital cable TV packages offer superior quality and prevent illegal connections. The company’s CEO said, “SkyCable has pinned down an expenditure of 1 million pesos for capital investment purposes. The rest of the amount will be spent on shifting our existing clients to digital cable TV networks.”
All cable TV companies are under the authority of the Philippine Cable Television Association. In 2009, 4 billion pesos in profit were lost due to illegal cable connections. Fraudsters used to hook multiple connections to someone else’s or they’d only subscribe for one connection and then extend it to various friends and family members.
The PCTA Chairman – Jose Lobregat said that there is a one on one ratio between paying for a cable connection OR going for it illegally.
