How To: Organize iPhone Apps With iTunes

Amidst all the hype for iTunes 9, the enticing feature for iPhone owners is the app management. Going by the reality, we can now organize the iPhone apps via iTunes. With this effortless drag and drop app management would bring down some painful attempts made earlier to organize apps.

Getting Started:

Just download iTunes 9 if you have not yet – Download Link
Also make sure you update your iPhone OS to 3.1 version, just to make sure this process is done smoothly.

Application Sync
The list of applications which you have installed in iPhone would now appear in the Sync Applications portion of the page. You now have the ability to search them, sort them according to category, date or by name.

You can also notice that some of the applications are checked and some are unchecked. The checked ones are those which are already available in your iPhone. You can also uncheck applications by which they will be removed from your app list immediately. Make sure you hit the Apply button to see the changes.

Drag and Drop Apps

Another great thing about this app management application is the simplicity in which apps can be dragged and dropped. You can also go about removing the app from the Virtual iPhone by selecting the app and clicking the x button.

You can just drag the app and put them to the right column. You can also make use of the command key to drag multiple apps at the same time allowing you to move them all at a time. Once again make sure you click on the Apply button for the changes to take place. Pretty Cool App Management..Right?

You can easily do this without iTunes too. All you have to do is to press any icon for about 3 second till all the articles start shaking then you can move, remove any application.

If you have a large music collection that needs organization, I would try FixTunes.
I used it on my music collection and it worked great. It’ll get all the metadata for your songs, it works pretty good but not great. There were some albums that it actually made worse, but 98% of them were improved.

Easy enough to do…

There is even apps out there what let you put apps/games into order of your preference!

02.22.10

Organizing helps a lot, I try to keep the more or less same kind of apps together, for example browsers, youtube, facebook and other internet related apps are seperated from games.
